Friends of Hardingstone - Putting the heart back into Hardingstone

Friends of Hardingstone (FOH) has been in existence for three years. Everyone who lives or works in the village is A Friend Of Hardingstone.

Our aims are to:

  • re-kindle community spirit in Hardingstone.
  • foster the enthusiasm, skills and knowledge of people in Hardingstone to bring about gradual changes for the better.
  • generate social opportunities for more people to become involved in village life especially young people.
  • create a more united village by encouraging organisations, groups and individuals to work together for the good of the whole village.
  • raise funds to improve facilities in Hardingstone.

Here are some of the things FOH has done. We’ve:

Started a monthly village tote which now has 4 cash prizes; run two sales evenings; two free Tea Cake & a Chat afternoons; two free cheese & wine events; two Race Nights; a fish & chip supper with quiz; two Easter Eggstravaganzas; a car rally.

We’ve helped the Parish Council with running their fetes, tidying the village and have bought the Christmas presents from Santa for two Childrens’ parties. We have also bought a large storage facility for Cheeky Monkeys Mums & Tots group, provided funding for thermal jugs for the village hall, donated some money to help Scouts go to the Jamboree and provided flowers. We are saving to help to provide a piece of equipment for young people on the Rec. We have organized the laying of crosses by village organizations at the Act of Remembrace for 2008.

Events that have taken place recently are Time for you, (a pamper evening), Christmas tea party for senior citizens and a Tea, Cake and a Chat afternoon. We are a small charity. As you can see all profits we make are ploughed directly back into facilities and amenities in Hardingstone. We would like to say a big THANK YOU to those of you who have helped us in the past or are doing so shortly. There are many individuals and also the two WI's and the Village Hall.

Our next event is ...

To enable us to continue “putting the heart back into Hardingstone” we would like more people to volunteer with us and also to attend our events. (see our aims). We have a lot of fun and it’s good to see people pulling together. Putting out tables, washing up, providing raffle prizes or cakes, helping with stalls or giving an elderly neighbour a lift to our events are offers of help we need. There is no long-term commitment just a thoughtful bit of help occasionally.

Do watch out for our notices of our events. Come and you’ll see we are a friendly lot! We particularly welcome younger volunteers along with our more “experienced” helpers and people new to the village.

Three separate people have recently told us that Friends of Hardingstone is making a difference. It would be really heartening if, as the result of this article, a few people gave us a ring to say they were interested in lending a hand to make Hardingstone an even better place to live.
