Hardingstone Neighbourhood Watch
Temporary web page Hardingstone Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) aims to keep residents and their property safe. It helps to build community spirit and establish good communication and relationships between residents and with the Police. Following NHW advice will reduce the opportunity for crime keeping you and your possessions safer.
Please read on. Who's Who and What’s What in Hardingstone Neighbourhood Watch? Hardingstone is recognised as having an official Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) scheme by the Police. Hardingstone Parish Council supports NHW Pam Pease and Jim Kerr are the Village Co-ordinators. The Borough and County support groups and the Police advise them. Alan Pease maintains the lamppost signs. All residents are therefore part of this scheme and can benefit by following NHW advice as printed in the village magazines or placed on notice boards and this website. Hardingstone NHW was re-launched in 2005. The village co-ordinators (past & present) have spent a lot of time passing on information to residents. In all areas of the County the Police have Safer Community Teams(SCTs). Ours is called Hunsbury and Nene Valley SCT. Our SCT liaises with the village co-ordinators, the Parish Council and residents. You can view our SCT on the Police website and to see what they are working on in our area. Your responsibility Your responsibility is to keep an eye on what is happening in your neighbourhood. Report anything suspicious to the Police. Also tell your neighbours. Residents in a NHW scheme are the eyes and ears of the Police. When more people are aware then the Police can gain extra information.
If you and your neighbours would like these door stickers please count how many you require and let NHW co-ordinators know. You will then be responsible for delivering them. ************************************************************** If you are suspicious about any activity or person/s look closely for the following: Height, build and approximate age. You will be safer if you:-
Keep your front and back doors locked Don’t open the door to unknown callers Have window locks fitted Keep your keys and valuables out of sight Don’t leave anything on show in your car Report any suspicious happenings to the Police Read and act on Neighbourhood Watch information
******************************* Don’t let bogus workers in! Here is some useful information we have placed in past village magazines. These articles are still relevant. The Police have recommended that Neighbourhood Watch pass these telephone numbers to you. If you are unsure whether or not a utility worker is legitimate ask their name then: SHUT & LOCK your door. Then ring the appropriate number from those below to check the person is legitimate. NEVER ring a number on a card you are given at the door because it may be bogus, and you would then speak to a second criminal. The real utility workers will not mind if you check them out. If the bogus “worker” runs off dial 999 straight away with a description. Do not leave any bags, purses or keys on view through windows. Dark evenings bring an increase in opportunist crime. Do not leave front door or car keys anywhere near the letterbox as criminals go “fishing” through with hooks have stolen many sets. Keep all keys out of sight. |
************************************************************** When going out do not put keys in the outside of your door, ready to lock it, until you are actually leaving. This is a golden opportunity for thieves. Some elderly passengers do not like to keep their drivers waiting so try to save time. Please be a “good neighbour” and warn vulnerable people of the danger. Care and Repair This is a national and local organisation that works for people over 60 years of age and those who have a disability. They do work in conjunction with the Police and Council. They directly employ a team of technicians to fit door & window locks and key safes. They make no charge for home visits. They phone before arriving and wear a uniform. They have done a lot of work in Hardingstone. Phone: 588604 Email: office@Care-and-repair.org.uk ************************************************************** Keep an eye out for any suspicious activity on or around school, church or community property sites. (day or night) |
If you see anyone in your front or back garden acting suspiciously ring the Police straight away. Give the best description you can. |
It’s not all bad news. Hardingstone continues to be a low crime area. If you are not convinced, ask a PCSO or see the local paper for what’s going on in other areas. Keep on “Neighbourhood Watching” please. |
************************************************************** A member of the public paid a vastly inflated price for a security system. Do not purchase this type of equipment from any company that you have not asked to call. Security systems are an excellent way of deterring burglars. Quotations should be obtained from three companies prior to purchase. Companies should be members of the BSIA - British Security Industry Association - or the SSIAB - Security Systems and Alarms Inspection Board. For further advice contact the Crime Prevention Officers. Tel 03000 111222 This is important for those using supermarket car parks |
Police tell us that opportunist thieves regularly watch for people leaving their cars to shop. If you transfer bags, laptops or other valuables into the boot on your arrival at the supermarket you may be showing the thieves you have something worth stealing. You might be more at risk of having your car broken into. GET YOUR EMPTY SHOPPING BAGS OUT OF THE BOOT BEFORE YOU LEAVE HOME This type of crime is at its worst between 5 & 6pm. If you must leave something of value in your car whilst you shop (on the way home from work etc) then place it in the boot before arriving at the shop. continues to be a low crime area. Help it stay that way. Keep on “Neighbourhood Watching” please.
